Join the Campaign for Community Health!

We are raising funds to purchase medical and dental equipment, furniture, medical records systems, information technology equipment, and infrastructure support. In order to procure these items and guarantee that this new facility can provide state-of-the-art medical care, we are turning to generous and supportive members of the community to help SCHC realize our vision and build upon this tremendous gift to the community.

Our goal is to raise $2 million by December 2007 to support SCHC’s expanded services and to outfit and completely equip this new facility to serve the growing uninsured and underinsured child and adult populations in our community.

Help make the Parman Center for Healthy Families become a reality!

Why support SCHC?
SCHC serves the uninsured and underinsured, low-income families of southwest Santa Rosa. A few facts about who we are caring for and the needs we are meeting:

  • We provide more than 50,000 patient visits per year, or 150 visits a day.
  • 96% of our patients have annual incomes of less than $25,000 for a family of four.
  • 72% of our patients are Latino.
  • 48% of our patients need more than $1,000,000 of uncompensated care each year.

SCHC is the medical home for more than 20,000 people in Santa Rosa who would otherwise have no access to primary and specialty medical care.

SCHC helps improve the health of the whole community by:

  • Reducing high-cost emergency room visits
  • Decreasing loss of work time and productivity
  • Reducing absences in school for children
  • Reducing chronic disease

How SCHC covers the cost of our services

As a federally qualified health center (FQHC), SCHC receive federal PHS Act Section 330 and Indian Health Service funds. SCHC qualifies to receives these funds because we provide services in Southwest Santa Rosa, designated as a medically underserved area (MUAs). Many of our patients are Latino, which is also a medically underserved population (MUP). The FQHC designation enables SCHC to receive cost-based reimbursement for Medicaid and Medicare patients. In addition, SCHC is able to benefit from federally funded technical assistance, higher rates of payment under Medicaid managed care, and eligibility for the Public Health Service Drug Pricing Program.

Our FQHC status helps us qualify for other funding programs including:

  • MediCal reimbursements
  • Child Health and Disability Prevention Program (a federal well-child program)
  • Healthy Families (a federal program for children only)
  • Other federal programs
  • State programs
  • Private foundations (such as the Sonoma County Community Foundation)

Still, the above funding sources only partially cover our operating budget and patient care costs. As a safety net provider, SCHC provides care for those who fall between the cracks: the growing number of uninsured and underinsured who don't qualify for assistance programs.

That's why we must make up the remainder of our expenses through donations from generous individuals and businesses ... people like you!

SCHC has grown more than 300 percent since we started in 1996, and more than 50 percent over that past three years. We expect our patient care to increase by another 40 percent in the next two years. We are working hard to meet the health care needs of greater numbers of people who find themselves caught in the gap created by skyrocketing health insurance costs.

Help us meet this need by making a tax-deductible gift today!
